Lindelia Vasquez, 47, and Julian Vasquez, 7, were trapped under the 27-foot vessel, which capsized about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday in front of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum at Pier 84 and 46th Street, they said the authorities. An NYPD spokesman told NJ Advance Media that the boat was registered in New Jersey and that the victims who died were en route from Colombia. “We don’t have an American address for them,” the police spokesman said. The woman and child who died were among 13 people aboard the boat who were trapped below when the vessel capsized, officials in New York said during a news conference. The woman and child were taken to separate New York hospitals, where they were pronounced dead. The relationship of the victims to each other was not immediately known, the police spokesman said. Eleven other family members, ranging in age from 19 to 53, were taken to area hospitals. The boat’s 24-year-old captain, who is from Elizabeth and was following the boat on a jet ski, was also injured, according to ABC7ny.com. At least two of the 11 people rescued were in critical condition Tuesday and the others were stable, officials said in the briefing. “(The boat) was chartered by family and friends and belonged to an individual (who) was on a jet ski following the boat,” NYPD Deputy Chief Denis M. McCarthy said in the update. McCarthy said detectives are investigating the cause of the tragedy, including whether too many people were on board when it capsized. Anthony G.
