The White House will not say whether President Biden will mention Jamal Khashoggi by name during meetings with Saudi officials this week, despite Khashoggi’s widows saying the administration assured her he would. Biden will meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) later this week after his appearances in Israel. Khashoggi’s widow, Hanan Elatr Khashoggi, met with White House officials last week and says she was assured Khashoggi’s name would come up. “We don’t usually preview the private conversations we have with other leaders before they take place, but President Biden took action on the Khashoggi killing immediately after taking office,” the White House told Fox News Digital on Thursday. “The President’s views on human rights are clear and long-standing, and fundamental freedoms are always on the agenda when he travels abroad, as they will be on this trip,” he continued. Turkish officials claimed he was assassinated by a Saudi team sent to Istanbul expressly for this purpose. Khashoggi was a US resident and Washington Post writer who was highly critical of MBS. When Biden first took office, his administration promised to treat the Saudis as a “pariah state,” but Biden has softened the regime as global gas prices have soared. But former Saudi intelligence official Saad Aljabri argues that Biden was right to keep the regime at arm’s length. “I’m here to sound the alarm about a psychopathic, murderous, Middle East with infinite resources, who is a threat to his people, to Americans and to the planet,” Aljabri said of MBS in an interview with “60 Minutes” on Tuesday. Aljabri says it’s only a matter of time before MBS kills him.
