UPDATE: 4:55 p.m West Kelowna RCMP have confirmed the Tuesday morning crash that closed Highway 97 in Peachland for several hours and killed one person. Police say they were called to the crash at the intersection of Princeton Avenue at 2:30 a.m. A small car and a semi-truck were involved in the collision. Police say the driver of the small car did not survive the crash. An RCMP Collision Analyst was at the scene and said the investigation is ongoing. West Kelowna RCMP are asking anyone who may have seen the crash or was in the area and has dash cam video of the crash and has not yet spoken to police to contact West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880 , citing file number 2022-42683. UPDATE: 11:35 a.m DriveBC reports that the scene has now been cleared of a serious crash on Highway 97 in Peachland. Authorities have not yet released statements about the crash, which is believed to have involved a semi and SUV. The incident closed the highway for several hours, since before dawn. An SUV crashes off the road and a transport trailer can be seen with the hood of a semi down on the side of the highway, motorists in Castanet say. “There is a partial hood of a semi tangled on the side of the road,” said one reader in an email. Northbound freeway traffic is backed up to Greta Ranch. Southbound traffic has stopped at the bottom of Drought Hill. DriveBC advises drivers to pay attention to traffic control and expect delays. The black vehicle has heavy damage on what appears to be its driver’s side and the SUV is in the ditch in some trees in images taken shortly after the crash. UPDATE: 6:30 a.m Witnesses report seeing a medevac helicopter at the scene of the crash in Peachland that closed the 97 Freeway. The helicopter was seen landing around 6 a.m. on Princeton Avenue, where the incident closed the freeway in both directions. The nature of the collision and injuries remain unknown at this time.
