Trike returned to Jacob Friesen on Friday morning UPDATE: 10 a.m Jacob Friesen woke up to some good news this morning. Kelowna RCMP had recovered the stolen tricycle outside the Orchard Park Mall late Thursday morning. Const. Mike Gauthier told Castanet News that Friesen’s trick was recovered Thursday night by Watch 1. The location of the discovery was not disclosed. Gauthier says the theft is still under investigation. The triple was returned to Friesen this morning. ORIGINAL: 4 A.M He took it everywhere. 98-year-old Jacob Friesen’s beloved trike was stolen from outside Orchard Park Mall on Thursday. He had arrived at the mall’s entrance next to The Bay facing Highway 97 between 11:30 A.M. and 12 p.m. Jacob went inside to run some errands and have lunch. When he returned about 45 minutes later, the white, three-wheeled BurchBike with a box on the back was gone. “It has the key and it only kicks in the (pedal) assist if you use the key. So the person driving it can have a hard time pushing the pedals as it’s a very heavy trick to drive without help,” said her granddaughter Meghan Friesen. Jacob and his wife have lived in Kelowna for 13 years, and he is out and about in the community quite a bit and is often seen with his little white dog, Ginger, riding in the stroller. Friesen was born in Saskatchewan and served as a missionary and pastor in Japan, where he met his wife and raised a family. Megan says the 98-year-old is just a very kind, witty guy who would like to do it.
