In first place is Edinburgh. Scotland’s capital is ‘the most beautiful city’, according to 95 per cent of residents. Some 93 percent of locals voted it the “most walkable city,” making it ideal for visitors who want to explore the city’s historic landmarks, architecture, and scenic hotspots on foot. The Time Out guide said 88 per cent of locals found it easy to express who you are in the city. “It’s something that’s celebrated every summer with the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which this year will mark its 75th anniversary,” he added. Silver goes to Chicago in the US, thanks to its amazing food and drink scene. Some 96 percent said the Windy City was a “great choice,” while 95 percent said there’s always something to do in arts and culture. “Whether you want to experience world-class dining from high-end restaurants to fine family restaurants, party until 4 a.m. in historic clubs, spend a day soaking up the sun along Lake Michigan – this puts the city on the map for visitors,” added the guide. In third place is the Colombian city of Medellín. Once the home of drug lord Pablo Escobar, Medellín has turned itself around to become “the place to visit for those looking for a good time.” The South American city tops the list for its food and drink, scoring 97 percent, as well as its nightlife and parties. It also ranks first – 94 percent – for community spirit. In fourth place is Glasgow. The Scottish city has been described as the ‘friendliest city in the world’, according to more than 75 per cent of locals. According to Time Out, it is also the second most affordable city with 87 percent of respondents saying it was cheap. In fifth and sixth place are Amsterdam and Prague, much loved for their openness and stunning architecture. Marrakesh is at seven o’clock. The North African city tops the list for romantic getaways with 69% of residents saying it’s the easiest city in the world to “connect” with people. The guide continues: “For those who just want to make friends or meet interesting people, it’s still first place – it comes second for making new friends and first place for meeting your neighbours.” Berlin came in at number eight and Montreal at number nine – both honored for their amazing arts and culture scenes. In 10th place is the stowaway city of Copenhagen. The Danish capital is rated as one of the greenest cities in the world, according to the Time Out guide. It ranks second in the world for sustainability (75%), walkability (86%) and ease of cycling (97%). And of course, the former maritime trading city has “seriously embraced its waterways, with flying dolphin bikes, floating saunas, hot tubs and even kayak bars galore.”
