The fire started around 10:20 am. at the corner of Wood St. and West Grand Ave. Several cars and RVs burned under the freeway, officials confirmed. “It’s very dangerous for the public as well as our firefighters. Multiple explosions from pressurized cylinders here on scene that at any time could have taken the life of one of our firefighters,” said Oakland Fire Chief Reginald Freeman. . “And we’ve been to this location on multiple occasions. And on top of that, breathing in very, very dangerous smoke.” A traffic alert was issued on Interstate 880 following the fire where all lanes were closed due to smoke causing long delays for commuters.
