The first clip, released by the NYPD on July 5, showed ex-con Martin Simon, 35, pushing store clerk Jose Alba, 61, against a wall after the younger man walked behind the register at the Blue Moon convenience store in Hamilton Heights on July 1. Police say Simon attacked Alba after the 35-year-old man’s girlfriend got into a fight with the clerk because she couldn’t pay for a bag of chips. The video showed Alba trying to get away from Simon after he was pushed, then putting a knife to his neck and torso repeatedly as the two fought each other. Alba insisted he stabbed Simon in self-defense, but was still charged with murder, angering supporters including Mayor Adams. On Saturday, new video emerged showing Alba trying to avoid a confrontation with Simon moments before the stabbing. Surveillance footage captures the deadly altercation between ex-con Austin Simon, left, and bodega employee Jose Alba. Simon is seen pushing Alba against the wall. The footage shows Alba trying to avoid a confrontation with Simon moments before the stabbing. “Dad, I don’t want trouble, dad,” Alba can be heard telling Simon as she walks behind the counter. As Simon approaches Alba, he can be heard demanding, “What have you got? N—-r, what’s wrong with you?’ The fatal stabbing happens moments later. “Dad, I don’t want trouble, dad,” Alba can be heard telling Simon. Simon’s girlfriend pulled a knife from her bag and tried to grab her arm before stabbing him. Alba plunged a knife into Simon’s neck and torso. Alba insisted she stabbed Simon in self-defense. On Sunday, The Post obtained more footage from a different angle showing the moment Alba was apparently slashed by Simon’s girlfriend as he stabbed her lover. The video appeared to show Simon’s girlfriend pulling a knife from her bag, trying to grab Alba’s hand and then stabbing him. The video shows Simon lying behind the register in a pool of blood while Alba can be seen in the background still holding the bloody knife. At one point, the girl is seen crying and apparently trying to revive Simon. Alba broke his silence on the incident Monday and told The Post that he is deeply sorry and remorseful for his actions.
