The provincial government has released a new five-year moose management plan, which emerged after extensive consultation with the public and others.
About 100,000 people participate in the annual moose hunt in Newfoundland and Labrador, and interest was so high in the online results for the moose license draw that the system crashed, according to Wildlife Minister Derrick Bragg. .
Bragg says the Prime Minister was “blown away” by the 50,000 people who logged in over two hours to see if they had taken their leave. Bragg says the Prime Minister remarked that he had never seen anything like it.

The focus of the Moose Management Plan is to balance management of the resource with the ecosystem in which they live.
Wildlife director Blair Adams says the level of public engagement has been high.
He says an online survey and open house was conducted in addition to feedback provided by residents who simply write, email or call with their ideas for plan improvements.
