The future of the Newfoundland and Labrador Down Society could be in jeopardy if membership is not increased. That’s what board member Jessica O’Reilly says. The volunteer-based organization is one of several groups struggling to return to pre-pandemic numbers. The society, which provides support and socialization opportunities for people with down syndrome, is scrambling to find participants for its biggest fundraising event, the Bob Robson Classic Golf Tournament. O’Reilly says if the fundraiser can’t go ahead, the organization may not have the financial means to stay open. He says if they have to cancel the golf fundraiser, they’ll have to find another way to raise money. She says her biggest fear is closing the society if they don’t have enough funds to run their programs. More information on how to support the NL Syndrome Society can be found online via their Facebook page.
