The festival, known locally as Sanfermines, usually takes place every year from July 6 to 14 in memory of the town’s patron saint. It has started again after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid pandemic. Thrill-seekers from all over the world are drawn to the festival, many of them to take part in the top event – the running of the bulls, or encierro – where they try to outrun the animals on a course through the narrow streets of Pamplona’s old town.
