New video has captured the moment tourists frantically scramble to claim sunbeds in Tenerife. The practice of reserving the best poolside seating with towels, often at dawn, has long been a common resort practice. The so-called ‘sunbed wars’ continue to divide opinion among holidaymakers. A new Tiktok revealed the latest battle at the Paradise Park resort, with video showing a determined group eagerly queuing at around 6am. The tourists break free from a nearby building and, like a herd of cattle, break out en masse. They are seen walking briskly while armed with towels in their bid to claim a coveted sunbed spot. The rush has baffled resort staff, who say there are five pools across their grounds. Paradise Park spokesman Rafael Ruiz-Benitez de Lugo told MailOnline: ‘We were delighted to see this considering our hotel has five pools and areas with space and sunbeds for everyone. “Although we do see quite a bit of talent amongst our steeplechasing guests.” Tourists pour out like ants after being given the go-ahead by a member of staff (Image: Tiktok) Some in the footage are seen spreading towels over more than one seat to save space for family or friends. Millions have already seen Tiktok, but comments have been disabled to eliminate any potential discussion. But similar footage has been branded “chaos” in the past. In Tenerife, hotel workers recently took matters into their own hands to resolve a similar issue. Amanda Proctor was on holiday at the Gran Costa Adeje hotel when she spotted workers taking revenge on cheeky tourists. Staff were seen collecting yellow towels in the clip, with one worker throwing more than 10 towels over his shoulder at one point.

Most people who saw the clip sided with the hotel staff and urged more resorts to adopt a similar policy. In another classic example of the sunbed wars taking place in resorts across Europe, an angry pensioner was caught on video tipping a holidaymaker from a closed sunbed at a hotel in Portugal. The poolside brawl began when Jenna Deacon and her friend Eilidh Robertson, 19, set up a ‘reserved’ sunbed with a towel in the Portuguese resort of Albufeira.
