One person is dead and a suspect has been located after an emergency call in Langham Township Friday morning. An emergency alert was issued at approximately 7:40 am. warning residents to stay inside and lock their doors. A second alert message named Justin Heimbecker as a suspect, warned he was considered armed and dangerous, and confirmed one person was dead. According to Corman Park police, Heimbecker was located shortly before noon Friday and there is no longer a threat to the public. At 12:15 p.m., the Mounties issued a media release saying they were canceling the alert and lifting the order requiring people in the Langham area to evacuate. Corman Park Police Chief Ron Chomin confirmed to 650 CKOM that Heimbecker has been located. The local police service provided support to the RCMP, Chomyn said, but could not share further details about the incident. According to an update from RCMP Friday afternoon, a man was found dead inside a home in Langham around 11:40 a.m. RCMP said the home was “on fire earlier in the day” and the deceased is believed to be Heimbecker. “RCMP Major Crimes is in the early stages of this investigation and we are unable to release any further details at this time,” the RCMP said. Carol Epp, who lives in Langham, described what it was like to sit in her home while police searched the town. “We’ve heard a lot of sirens (and) there’s police, but that’s about it,” Heimbecker said before being arrested.

The alarm was canceled at 12:05 p.m. and police believe there is no further risk to public safety and the shelter in place has been cancelled.
