Phoenix Prince, 6, and his father, Blake Prince, were among the spectators who watched the concert Friday outside the Rogers Centre. Phoenix, dressed in an outfit similar to The Weeknd’s outfit from his Blinding Lights music video, began to cry when he heard the concert was postponed. A bystander caught the moment on camera and posted it on Twitter, where The Weeknd himself immediately retweeted it. He asked: “can someone find him for me?” “Phoenix was drawing attention in his suit,” Blake said. “We had a meltdown moment. He was upset that the show was postponed and someone took a picture.” “The Weeknd retweeted it!” can someone find him for me? https://t.co/vWFFnZj6Rv —@theweeknd Since then, father and son have received an “outpouring of love” on social media, with several people saying they want to be just like Phoenix. The Weeknd was set to perform at the Rogers Center on Friday night as part of his After Hours Til Dawn tour. However, venue officials announced that the concert was postponed just 30 minutes before it was due to start. It didn’t deter Phoenix’s determination to meet his favorite musician one day. “I’d say you’re the best artist and I love your songs and you’re so good and I couldn’t wait [the concert],” Phoenix said when asked by his father what he would personally say to The Weeknd. “And I would ask you for an autograph,” he added. (Submitted by Blake Prince) Blake said he and his son have been waiting three years for this concert, as have many fans. The Weeknd’s concert tour has been postponed a few times due to COVID-19. After successive waves of COVID-19, the concert was postponed again to accommodate a larger crowd. But his biggest fan was the youngest among them. “Phoenix has been a fan of The Weeknd since he started listening to his music two or three years ago,” Blake said. “At first I thought it was a joke,” Phoenix said when he heard the concert was postponed. “It made me feel upset.” But after The Weeknd retweeted the photo, Phoenix and his father have been overwhelmed by the support and love they’ve received from the artist and his fans. They hope to meet The Weeknd eventually for that coveted autograph. “He really appreciates taking the time to shine a light on Phoenix for a minute there. It means a lot to him,” Blake said. Fans have been informed that tickets will be honored when the concert is rescheduled. Until then, Phoenix hopes to meet the Toronto-born sensation. As for Phoenix’s favorite songs, he said, “I like Blinding Lights, Starboy and Sacrifice.”
