Gareth Anscombe secured their first away win in South Africa with a 13-12 win over a much-changed Springboks at the Free State Stadium. Wing Josh Adams crossed for the only try of the game with two minutes left on the clock, leaving Anscombe with a difficult conversion to win the game, but he landed the ball between the posts to make history for the Wayne side Pivac. Stand-in captain Handre Pollard kicked four penalties for a Boks side that made 14 changes to their starting XV from the first Test win and never found any fluency in a game where they mostly dominated the area until the final 10 minutes. The third and deciding Test of the series will be played in Cape Town next Saturday. Follow all the reactions below with our live blog:

Latest drama sees Wales claim first ever win over Springboks on South African soil
Wales made history as they recorded a stunning 13-12 second Test victory over South Africa in Bloemfontein. It was Wales’ first win against the Springboks on South African soil, ending a 58-year losing streak and reaching their 12th attempt. After suffering an agonizing three-point defeat in last weekend’s series opener, Wayne Pivac’s side made no mistake at the second time of asking and set up a decider in Cape Town next Saturday. Springboks coach Jacques Nienaber’s decision to make 14 changes backfired – he rested World Cup winners Siya Kolisi, Faf de Klerk and Cheslin Kolbe – as Wales triumphed with Josh Adams’ 78th-minute try and Gareth Anscombe converting from the field line.

South Africa 12-13 Wales: Josh Adams’ late try, converted by Gareth Anscombe, earns a narrow win at the end of a dreadful game Harry Latham-Coyle July 9, 2022 6:33 p.m 1657387738
One by one!
Four out of four for the Six Nations teams in action so far today, and another series will be settled in a decider next weekend. You could, perhaps, suggest that South Africa were lucky to win the first test and Wales were lucky to do that, but 1-1 is probably a fair reflection of an even series. There will be some tired bodies in the Wales squad after two physical encounters – can Wayne Pivac afford to make changes in Cape Town? Harry Latham-Coyle July 9, 2022 6:28 p.m 1657387196
And now Handre Pollard
“Discipline cost us,” says the South African captain. “Wales won all the big moments in the second half and our discipline let us down. The lads fought hard and that’s all you can ask for. We just weren’t clinical enough.” Pollard adds that his withdrawal was a cramp. Harry Latham-Coyle July 9, 2022 6:19 p.m 1657387038
Wayne Pivac reacts to Sky Sports
“It’s a bit like last week – we got to one of the last plays, we were in there. I’m really happy that we were able to build some pressure at the end of the game and have one last crack. “I had confidence in him because he was kicking so well during the week. He lost one, but he got what mattered. “We worked really hard in defense and were much more disciplined, which allowed us to stay in the game. There was a lot of passion in the dressing room before the game and at half-time, and they were very disappointed after last week. It wasn’t easy at all. “We’re a little disappointed not to be 2-0, but we’re in the race for a run. It’s going to be a big week for us and we’re looking forward to it.” Harry Latham-Coyle July 9, 2022 6:17 p.m 1657386784
F/T: South Africa 12-13 Wales
For South Africa, a difficult night. Jacques Nienaber wanted to look at the depth of his squad, but his team was divided throughout. They should, be that as it may, have been out of sight by clashing and dominating set-pieces for much of the second half. How many of this group will be involved in the decision? Rightly so, some praise for Sam Wainwright from Adam Jones on Sky Sports. The debutant came on late after Dillon Lewis was injured, winning the scrum penalty that allowed Wales into South Africa’s 22 before the try from Adams, then keeping his feet to avoid penalty in the set-up with the clock in the red and South Africa looking for what would surely be a match-winning penalty. Josh Adams goalscorer for Wales’ historic win
“You know what, after last week we talked about bottling up pain and frustration and using it effectively. It showed the character of the team tonight, the way we came back. I think it speaks volumes for this team. “South Africa’s defense has a reputation for being very strong and it takes a lot of effort and time to break it down. The effort at the end was excellently done by the team. As a team we are happy, especially after last week. “Very special moment [for Gareth Anscombe]. This is a clutch kicker, that is, and he has absolutely nailed it. Very happy for him.” Harry Latham-Coyle 9 July 2022 18:07 1657386248
F/T! South Africa 12-13 Wales
Blimey. Wales beat the Springboks in South Africa for the first time! Ireland in New Zealand earlier, and now Wayne Pivac’s side have made history. They really had no right to do that. It was a scrappy game, as we all said, but Wales somehow hung in there, allowing Josh Adams’ corner score and Gareth Anscombe’s anxious touchline conversion to seal a famous victory. South Africa 12-13 Wales, 81 mins
Initially firm from both sides, but down the stretch with Wales in retreat. Angus Gardner says… play! No penalty. South Africa must play. Grant Williams is on the wing and Louis Rees-Zamit is making sure to keep him close as he picks up the replacement. Back to midfield. Vincent Koch will carry… HIT! Wales won!
