The SIU said in a news release that on April 11, police went to a residence and arrested a 38-year-old man on several outstanding warrants. “When officers located a man matching the wanted description, the man fled the scene,” the SIU said. “The officers gave chase. During the struggle that marked his arrest when he was arrested, the man consumed a quantity of methamphetamine. “He was taken to hospital, kept under observation for a period of time and released without serious injury under the terms of the SIU order.” The SIU said that based on its preliminary investigations and the man’s medical records, the investigation was outside its scope. The police watchdog only investigates when an interaction between officers and the public results in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
