The incident occurred this morning when a fight broke out while the man was being held in the cells, police said. Bear spray was also discharged. Police said the suspect was injured in the fight and received medical attention. Details on the suspect’s injury and whether it was a gunshot wound were not released. An officer also suffered minor injuries, RCMP said. Police said the suspect was arrested after RCMP were called to a theft complaint in the area of 15th Avenue and Victoria Street. The man, whose name has not been released, was found to be in possession of a firearm and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, RCMP said. “As this is an active investigation, there will be no further updates,” the RCMP said. The IIO is a civilian watchdog responsible for investigating police injuries and deaths. If he finds evidence of criminal wrongdoing, he forwards his findings to the Prosecutor’s Office of P.K. for examination of the charges.
