The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said the shooting occurred when deputies responded to a call of a suspicious vehicle in the 5700 block of Sycamore Court around 12 a.m. Sunday. During a news conference Sunday morning, Sheriff Shannon Diskus said the deputy attempted to make contact with someone inside the vehicle. That’s when the suspect shot the deputy twice. The deputy, identified only as a five-year veteran of the department, returned fire but did not appear to hit the suspect, identified as Nicholas Campbell. The deputy was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for treatment and listed in stable condition. DEVELOPMENT: We will add more details to this report as they become available.
