A few tense moments early this afternoon after a toddler in a flotation device began drifting into the open ocean at a popular beach in Conception Bay North. The Joint Rescue Coordination Center received the call around 2:00 p.m. that a small child on a float was drifting away from land at Northern Bay Sands. The crew of the Coast Guard’s Conception Bay Rescue Boat retrieved the child who was in good condition and transferred him back to a waiting ambulance as a precaution.
