The panel on January 6 announced the date of its next hearing, confirming it will be in prime time on Thursday, July 21. The hearing is expected to detail the 187 minutes between when then-President Donald Trump left the stage at the Ellipse in front of the South Lawn of the White House on Jan. 6 and his initial public response to the attack in Congress. Meanwhile, the US Secret Service has denied a report that it deliberately deleted texts sent on January 5 and 6, 2021, calling the claim “malicious” and “false.” The story began with a letter from the Department of Homeland Security claiming the messages were deleted after an internal agency watchdog requested them. However, a spokesman said the Secret Service “began to factory reset its cell phones as part of a pre-planned, three-month system migration” and that “in the process, data residing on some phones was lost.” The retrial comes shortly after the Jan. 6 committee aired witness testimony that Donald Trump had to be restrained by members Jan. 6 when he realized he was not being led to the Capitol with his supporters. Committee member, spokesman Jamie Raskin, says: “We are determined to retrieve and recover all the texts that have been lost.”

ICYMI: Bannon says in leaked audio Trump planned to declare victory on election night even if he loses
In shocking new audio obtained by a liberal news outlet, former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon can be heard outlining a plan for Donald Trump to declare victory on election night before voting closes and the results are announced. Mother Jones published audio of Mr. Bannon discussing the plan in a conversation that took place before election night. According to the former administration official, Trump would have declared victory from the Oval Office even before the results were final in the various states that determined the winner. “What Trump will do is just declare victory. Correctly? He will declare victory. But that doesn’t mean he’s a winner,” Mr. Bannon says in the audio. “He’ll just say he’s the winner.”

People close to former President Donald Trump are concerned that his latest White House chief of staff, former North Carolina Rep. Mark Meadows, could face charges for his role in helping the defeated former president try to stay in office despite will of the voters. According to Rolling Stone, the Jan. 6 House committee is “quietly” looking into Mr. Meadows’ financial dealings in addition to investigating his involvement in the Trumpworld scheme that led to the worst attack on Capitol Hill since 1814. “Everybody is strategizing around the possibility that Mark is going to have a lot of problems,” said a lawyer close to Mr. Trump who spoke to the magazine.

The House committee investigating the insurgency on Capitol Hill has opted to cut evidence linking allies of former President Donald Trump to a handful of far-right extremist groups in favor of including testimony from former White House adviser Pat Cipollone. Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson of Mississippi confirmed to The Hill earlier this week that the committee was prepared to present evidence linking people like Rudy Giuliani to groups like the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers, but decided against it after securing the testimony of Mr. Cipollone.
