Frank was last seen on April 19 playing outside the home where he lived with his aunt and uncle on the Red Earth Cree Nation, about 300 kilometers northeast of Saskatoon. Despite an extensive land, air and sea search of the community and surrounding area, the boy had not been seen since that day. “At this time, there are no indications of any suspicious circumstances,” the RCMP said in a news release Sunday. “However, as it has just been identified, further investigative steps will be taken, including working with the Saskatchewan Medical Examiner’s Office and an autopsy will be performed.” Officers received a report at approximately 7:06 p.m. on Saturday that Frank was found dead in the river on the Red Earth Cree Nation, according to RCMP. Police say Frank’s family has been notified. “This is not how anyone wanted the search for Frank to end,” said the sergeant. Richard Tonge, commander of the Carrot River RCMP detachment, said in the news release. “Our deepest condolences go out to Frank’s family, loved ones and community who have been greatly affected by this tragedy.”

“We ask for your prayers and your continued support”: leader

Red Earth Cree Nation Chief Fabian Head confirmed the discovery of Frank – in the water on the Red Earth Cree Nation – on social media shortly after midnight on Sunday. Members of the RCMP tactical unit and volunteers from the Red Earth and Shoal Lake Cree nations had been concentrating on the Carrot River since the spring thaw. The Carrot River originates at Wakaw Lake and flows northeast through the Red Earth Plains to the Saskatchewan River near The Pas, Man. “It is with a heavy heart that I announce the discovery of Frank Young on Saturday July 9,” Head wrote on Facebook. “We will hold a media conference and release more information at that time. In the meantime, we ask for your prayers and continued support during our time of grief.”
