He was arrested July 4 after RCMP said six students at the southeast Winnipeg school came forward last month saying they had been assaulted between February and May of this year. “Students in this situation reached out to a trusted person about them and the school department reported it through the school social worker and then reported it to the RCMP,” Sgt. Morgan Page said at a news conference Wednesday. He said additional female students have since come forward to provide information that helped the investigation.

David Buetti, of Winnipeg, has been charged with five counts of sexual assault and three counts of sexual interference. Page said Buetti no longer works at the Steinbach school and has since been released from custody on several conditions, including not having contact with the alleged victims and not working in a position of trust or authority with anyone under the age of 16. Story continues below ad In a statement to Global News, Hanover School Department Superintendent Shelley Amos said Bueti was placed on “immediate leave” when they learned of the allegations at the Steinbach school. Amos said the department is cooperating with investigators.

“The Directorate takes the allegations seriously and is taking the necessary precautions to ensure the matter is properly investigated,” Amos said in an email. “While the Directorate is precluded from providing any detail regarding the allegations, the Directorate can advise that the relevant authorities have taken up the matter and will look into the matter in accordance with their internal processes and procedures.” Story continues below ad
The accused was employed in Winnipeg schools
Police say Bueti also worked at several different schools in Winnipeg before working at Steinbach. Page said he worked at River East Collegiate for six months in 2021 and at Holy Cross School for four months in 2020. He also taught at Holy Ghost School from 2006 to 2007 and at St. John Brebeuf from 2007 to 2018.

In a statement, the River East Transcona School District (RETSD) said Bueti was a teacher at River East from February to June 2021 and was also a substitute in the department at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year.
