The suspect and victim initially fought on Noel Avenue, east of Trafalgar Road and Veterans Memorial Parkway, Monday night before leaving separately, police said. Emergency crews were then called around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday to a report of a man on fire near Admiral Drive and Trafalgar Street, police said. “The citizen called 911 as the victim was on fire,” said Const. said Sandasha Bough. The flames were extinguished before police arrived and police were given a description of the suspect and a vehicle, Bough said. The injured man, 29, was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition on Tuesday. Officers spotted a vehicle in the 1800-block of Royal Crescent — a few blocks from the scene of the near-fatal arson attack — around 3 a.m. in connection with an unrelated investigation and arrested a man for impaired driving, police said.

Officers determined the man was the suspect in the attempted murder case, police said. “The researchers did a very good job of putting the pieces together,” Bough said. Bradley Joudrey, 32, of London, is charged with attempted murder, impaired driving and having a blood alcohol level above the legal limit. He appeared briefly via video in a London courtroom, where he was ordered not to contact more than a dozen people. The case was adjourned until Friday. Back on the scene, evidence surrounded two patches of charred grass near a townhouse complex. A baseball cap, sweater and flip-flops were among the debris strewn across a crime scene that stretched across the parking lot of a nearby shopping plaza.

A London police forensics team and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s investigator spent the morning searching the scene for evidence and taking photographs. A white SUV sat covered with a black tarp in the plaza’s parking lot, less than 20 meters from the charred grass and debris. An employee at a variety store in the plaza, which also houses a pizzeria and barber shop, said the store was closed at the time of the incident and instructed investigators to contact his company’s headquarters to request surveillance video. (Dale Carruthers/The London Free Press) It is the second time someone has been set on fire in London in the last year. A London man, 34, has been charged with attempted murder after attacking his 67-year-old father in the Glen Cairn neighborhood on July 25, 2021. Two men were fighting in the street near Thompson Road and Jacqueline Street when one doused the other with a liquid and set it on fire, witnesses said at the time. Officers used a fire extinguisher and a blanket to extinguish the flames before the man was taken to hospital in critical condition, police said. The case remains before the courts.
