According to an RCMP news release, a BC Highway Patrol officer was driving to a call just before 7 p.m. when his police vehicle collided with a civilian vehicle at the intersection of Maple Street and 10th Avenue. “The two occupants of the civilian vehicle were treated at a local hospital, where one passenger was found to have serious but non-life threatening injuries as a result of the collision,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Janelle Shoihet said in the release. The Office of Independent Investigations, BC’s police watchdog agency, is looking into whether police action contributed to the injuries. The crash itself is being investigated by Penticton Mounties and BC Highway Patrol investigators. Any witnesses who have not spoken to investigators are asked to contact the IIO.
