video clip, about 70 seconds long, shows the two flags being lit.
Two other men can be seen filming the incident with mobile phones. In the clip, someone can be heard yelling “Ooh aah up the ‘Ra’.” There is plenty of clapping and cheering when the flags are lighted. The footage appears to have been filmed on Falls Road in west Belfast. It was posted on social media on July 11, but it is unclear when exactly the video was shot. There is no suggestion that the premises, outside of which the incident occurred, were aware of or condoned the actions. Today a PSNI spokesman said: “The Police Service is aware of the video and we are carrying out inquiries.” The video clip comes in a week that has sparked controversy over flags, campaign posters and effigies of Naomi Long, Michelle O’Neill and Mary Lou McDonald hanging from bonfires of the “Eleventh Night” faithful.
