New life is being given to a plan to start a new Christian radio station in Kelowna and Kamloops. The Canadian Radio-television and Communications Commission is currently accepting comments from the public on the acquisition of the assets of a non-startup radio station in Kelowna and transponder in Kamloops. Also included in the deal are non-launch stations in Saskatoon and Scarborough. United Christian Broadcasters Media Canada — which operates a chain of 10 Christian radio stations in Canada — wants to acquire the planned stations from International Harvesters for Christ Evangelical Association Inc. for $1. Both groups are non-profit organizations. International Harvesters first won approval in 2018 to launch a Christian radio station in Kelowna (88.1 FM) and Kamloops (99.1 FM). While the station never went down, it promised to play a mix of music and spoken word religious content, the vast majority of which was not local. United Christian Broadcasters says it will launch the station in the same format on the same frequency if the takeover is approved. It is expected that the station will generate most of its revenue from broadcasting Bible programs rather than traditional advertising. The CRTC is accepting input on the proposal until August 8, ahead of a hearing on the matter on September 8.
