RCMP say a fire in the Argentia/Placentia area of the Avalon Peninsula is now under control. Police issued alerts just after 2pm on Sunday, asking the public to avoid the area of the Argentina Line and the Placentia interchange. Officials from the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture remain at the scene to deal with outbreaks or outbreaks. Police also say access is no longer restricted and they have left the scene. Firefighters were today faced with the added challenge of mostly dry and windy conditions. The area is dotted with cabins and cottages, but it is unclear if any are in danger or if there has been damage.
