The shooting caused hundreds of attendees to flee the area. Brian Cassella/Chicago Tribune/AP A Fourth of July parade ended in tragedy Monday when a mass shooting left seven people dead in the Chicago, Illinois suburb of Highland Park. Dozens of people were also injured in the attack. Robert “Bobby” E. Crimo III, 21, faces seven counts of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting. Authorities say he climbed onto the roof of a nearby business and opened fire minutes after the parade began, sending people running for safety. During a mock hearing Wednesday, a judge ordered Crimo held without bail. A Lake County assistant state’s attorney claimed Crimo, in a voluntary statement to law enforcement, confessed to shooting the crowd. Investigators believe the suspect had been planning the attack for weeks. Here are some of the stories that made headlines last week, as well as some photos that caught our eye.
