Average pump prices drop to 188.76pa a liter for petrol and 196.96pa a liter for diesel. 1 Petrol prices could fall by £10 a tank within two weeks, the AAP saidCredit: AFP This compares to last month, when petrol cost a record 191.53 liters (July 3) and diesel at 199.07 liters (July 1). However, wholesale petrol prices which had peaked above £1 a liter on June 1 fell below 80p/litre for much of last week. The AA said this latest change could see the cost of a tank drop by £10 in a fortnight. But Luke Bosdet, the AA’s fuel prices spokesman, said the projected savings would only come “provided the fuel trade is prepared to pass them on”. He said: “The problem is that, in many places, price cuts are simply not happening despite more than six weeks of falling costs. “Roads may suffer from extreme heat today and tomorrow, but pump prices should have dropped much more significantly by now.” Fuel prices have been rising in recent months in part because of the war in Ukraine. But they have also risen steadily as coronavirus restrictions around the world have been lifted and demand for energy has increased. This is because the price of crude oil used to make petrol and diesel has gone up. Some stations have reduced their prices and as a result are seeing queues of several kilometers building up.
