On July 8, 2022, just before 8:30 a.m., officers responded to a call about a body floating in the River Trent in the area of Bridge Street. Officers located and retrieved the body from the water, however the victim was dead. The deceased has been identified as Gail Cleary, 80, of Trent Hills. The death is not believed to be suspicious and foul play is not suspected. The Northumberland OPP Crime Unit and Central District Forensic Services are continuing the investigation in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Justice for Ontario. Police are asking for the public’s assistance in the investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident should immediately contact the Northumberland OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
