Police issued three tickets to parents of youths stopped for off-road vehicle operation. Twillingate RCMP stopped two dirt bikes riding on the highway between Summerford and Cottlesville traveling at 50 km/h last week. The parents of the 11-year-old and 14-year-old were issued tickets for allowing the youth to operate an off-road vehicle without supervision. About half an hour later, the same officer stopped another dirt bike on Main Street in Summerford traveling 76 km/h. A parent of the young teenager was also ticketed. The RCMP reminds parents that under the Off-Road Vehicle Act, operators under the age of 16 must be supervised by a licensed driver who is at least 18 years old and must be seen at all times to provide direct guidance to the operator.
