New York Mayor Eric Adams used the 2022 Met Gala on Monday to make a political statement, wearing a tuxedo with the words “End Gun Violence” on the back.
Adams, 61, was photographed next to his girlfriend, Tracy Collins, with a thumb and a smile.

“Bringing some buzz back to #MetGala. My honor to be here,” Adams wrote on Twitter, along with many photos.
Earlier Monday, the mayor posted a photo on Twitter of himself doing a pedicure while preparing for the Meta Gala.
Statistics released last month by the NYPD show that armed violence is on the rise. In March, the city reported 115 shootings – an increase of more than 16% from March 2021.

Adams is by no means the first politician to make a political statement. Last year, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spokeswoman DN.Y. made a splash when she wore a white dress with the slogan “tax the rich.”

The choice of wardrobe provoked a mixed response on social media, with some praising Ocasio-Cortez’s message and others calling it “indecently irrelevant and completely hypocritical.”
