A proposal for a 490-unit apartment development at Lake Shannon. A plan to build nearly 500 apartments on the hillside overlooking the Constable Neil Bruce High School in West Kelowna has been submitted to the city. The development at 2741 Auburn Road would see a five-building, 490-unit apartment project with structures up to six stories tall with an additional level of underground parking. The developer is proposing a custom development zone specifically for the property with at least 575 parking spaces. The property is currently vacant and contains unofficial trails used by the Shannon Lake neighborhood. It is currently zoned for low-density multiple dwellings. The proposal is still in the very early stages and will go before the council’s advisory planning committee next week. The committee made up of city residents provides recommendations to the city council before elected officials review the proposal. A city staff report notes that the development’s adaptive zoning proposal is expected to be amended before the project comes before the city council at a yet-to-be-determined date.
