(File photo.) Relations between Mount Pearl and the striking workforce worsen with the mayor alleging disrespectful behavior by some of the protesters. The more than 200 workers have been on strike for a week but the two parties are not at the negotiating table. Mayor Dave Aker says picketing has gone beyond acceptable limits and is calling on CUPE Local 2099 to tone things down. He told VOCM Open Line with Tim Powers that some members harass female managers and even photograph them outside of city property. Mayor Aker says some of the women are worried and nervous. He says once city managers leave City Hall and clear the property, they should be able to return to their vehicles in peace. CUPE Response Local CUPE President Ken Turner says the first he heard about the shooting of city managers was Wednesday morning at VOCM Open Line. He notes that the city has hired security and they take video of the area almost all the time. He adds that if a complaint had been made, the union would have dealt with it immediately. Many sports and entertainment programs have been canceled due to the strike.
