It happened around 12:30 p.m. outside a plaza in the area of Dufferin Street and Finch Avenue.
Det. Sgt. Lesley Dunkley tells CP24 there was a party going on at a lounge in the square at the time. He said “several patrons from the lounge” then got involved in a “big brawl” in the parking lot in the moments leading up to the stabbing.
“We know the incident happened in the parking lot, however the patrons in the parking lot had previously been to a lounge for a lounge party. We know there were probably about 300 people at that location and we’re asking them to come and talk to us,” he said.
Police say paramedics attempted to perform life-saving measures on the victim, but he was eventually pronounced dead at the scene.
His identity has not yet been released, but Dunkley said he is believed to be between 18 and 20 years old.
Meanwhile, no information about a possible suspect or suspects has been released at this time.
“We are still reviewing video surveillance in the area and interviewing witnesses and hope to have a description later today,” Dunkley told CP24.
Homicide officers, as well as medical examiners, are currently on the scene.
Dunkley said officers will search businesses in the plaza for possible surveillance footage this morning.
