The ardaí were called by the coastguard when man after man got into trouble while swimming at Fanroe, Co. Beach. Clare, about 9.30pm yesterday. Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene and the man was removed from the water. The man was taken to University Hospital Galway, where he was pronounced dead. This is the second drowning this week as more people take to the water due to rising temperatures. A teenage boy died on Tuesday after getting into trouble while swimming at Burrow Beach in Sutton, North Co Dublin. Speaking about the deaths of the teenagers, Labor councilor Brian Mc Donagh said: “We just have to be so careful. It’s so, so terrible. We have great beaches and we love to see people enjoying them and it’s just devastating for the family. “Everyone’s feeling it a bit. I’m swimming on the other side, the Portmarnock end of this beach and it’s just been a lovely summer’s day, as hot as you can get and it’s devastating that someone has gone out to do something quite normal and then gets into trouble. “It kind of reminds us how much we need to pay attention to each other.” Mr McDonough’s message to look out for each other while in the water is now being echoed across the country as another family lost someone to drowning.
