The Foreign Secretary wore a black jacket and white shirt with a large bow for Friday’s event, which matched exactly what the former Conservative prime minister wore in a 1979 election broadcast. Hundreds took to the social media platform to point out the striking resemblance. One tweet, which received more than 4,500 likes, said: “Liz Truss recreated Margaret Thatcher’s look from her 1979 election campaign down to the last detail.” Another joked: “Liz Truss’s Margaret Thatcher Tribute Act is available to rent.” Ms Truss appeared alongside Tory leadership colleagues Tom Tugendhat, Rishi Sunak, Kemi Badenoch and Penny Mordaunt for the Channel 4 debate hosted by Krishnan Guru-Murthy.
