An emergency alert was issued at approximately 7:40 am. via Sask Alert in areas around Langham, Sask., regarding a dangerous, potentially armed person in the area, and urged residents to lock their doors and windows and shelter in place. The gunman was later identified by police as Justin Heimbecker, 46. About four hours later, RCMP found what they believe to be his body in a house that had gone up in flames earlier that day. A statement released Sunday by Justin Heimbecker’s aunt, Donna Heimbecker, on behalf of the family says they will “never know what was going through Justin’s mind that tragic day.” “His actions were completely uncalled for for the man we all came to know and love and we will always wish we could have known his struggles and been there for him,” the statement said. “Our family sends our sincere condolences and prayers to his family, friends and loved ones [person] who also lost [their] life so pointlessly through this tragic incident.” Justin Heimbecker, the Langham, Sask., shooting suspect whose body police believe was found in a burned-out home in the town. Donna said in an interview that Justin has dealt with trauma, including the death of his mother in a tragic accident when he was two, and that they knew he had been struggling with stress and anxiety in recent weeks. “All of these traumas throughout our lives affect who we are today and unfortunately Justin struggled with mental health issues. If we had known the day these events happened, maybe there was something we could have done,” she said. Donna, adding that she had not been in contact with Justin on Friday. She said the family were close with Justin and even spoke to his grandmother, who raised him, the day before filming for his day and “he didn’t seem upset at the time”. “There [were] without indicators”. The RCMP’s major crimes unit was in the early stages of the investigation, RCMP spokeswoman Mandy Maier told CBC News on Friday.
