Monkey pox is a viral disease that spreads through close contact with an infected person and is usually endemic in Central and West Africa, the health unit said. “The monkeypox virus has been circulating in the province for a few months and we expected it to reach the KFL&A area. There is no increased risk of monkeypox for KFL&A residents stemming from this outbreak,” said Dr. Piotr Oglaza, KFL&A Medical Officer of Public Health.

“In general, monkeypox does not spread easily between humans. KFLA residents do not have to worry about their daily activities in the community. We recommend that individuals be aware of the symptoms and seek immediate medical attention if symptoms occur,” he added. Trending Stories
