Gaudreau and Calgary have not come to an agreement despite ever-increasing offers from general manager Brad Treliving to convince him to stay. It was reported earlier today that Calgary had offered Gaudreau an eight-year deal worth more than $10MM per season. Gaudreau either thinks he can get more on the open market tomorrow, or he just wants a change of scenery from Alberta. After his electric 115-point season, he’ll have some teams willing to shell out eight figures for his services. While the Philadelphia Flyers have been consistently linked to him for years, they haven’t been able to clear enough cap space to make his signing a realistic possibility. A team with plenty of cap space that makes sense is the New Jersey Devils, who could start their playoff battle with a Gaudreau/Jack Hughes connection up front. Whatever happens, Gaudreau is set to join the $10MM+ hit club tomorrow. He would be the 15th player in the league right now with an eight-figure contract and the only left wing other than the Rangers’ Artemi Panarin.
