The track, due for release on Friday July 15, is one of two songs the actor wrote on a collaborative album titled 18, recorded alongside British guitarist Jeff Beck. Of the album’s title track, Beck said, “When Johnny and I started playing together, it really ignited our youthful spirit and creativity. We would joke about how we felt 18 again, so that became the title of the album.” The first single from the album, This is a Song for Miss Hedy Lamarr, is a Depp original. “I was blown away by it,” Beck said of the track. “That song is one of the reasons I asked him to do an album with me.” Depp added: “It’s a great honor to play and write music with Jeff, one of the true greats and someone I’m now privileged enough to call my brother.” “I think you’ve said enough about a fucking night,” he sings along with Beck, according to the Sunday Times. “You’re sitting there like a seven-year-old itchy dog… If I had a dime, it wouldn’t reach your hand,” he sings on a track, called Sad Motherfuckin’ Parade. He joined Beck on stage at several of his recent UK concerts during his libel trial and is also reported to be planning on-stage appearances on Beck’s upcoming European tour. Along with Depp’s two original songs, the album, which has been recorded over the past three years, features 13 songs, including covers of Motown artists as well as the Beach Boys, John Lennon, Velvet Underground and Killing Joke. After joining TikTok in June, Depp shared a video montage of his recent UK tour with Jeff Beck with a caption thanking his “most precious, loyal and steadfast supporters”. In the post, also shared on Instagram, Depp wrote: “We’ve been everywhere together, seen everything together. We have walked the same road together. Together we did the right thing because you cared. And now, we will all move forward together.” Subscribe to First Edition, our free daily newsletter – every morning at 7am. BST In a statement to People magazine, a representative for Heard responded to his message, saying, “As Johnny Depp says he’s ‘moving forward,’ women’s rights are moving backwards. The verdict’s message to victims of domestic violence is … you are afraid to stand up and speak.’ Depp won his case in June, with a jury finding that Heard defamed her ex-husband when she wrote a 2018 Washington Post op-ed about being a survivor of domestic violence. Although she did not mention Depp by name in the piece, his lawyers argued that she falsely implied that she was sexually and physically abused by him during their marriage. Heard plans to appeal the verdict.
