Elizabeth Frantz | Reuters The House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on Capitol Hill revealed they told the Justice Department that former President Donald Trump contacted one of his witnesses, who has yet to testify publicly. “After our last hearing. President Trump tried to call a witness in our investigation. A witness you haven’t seen in these hearings yet,” Rep. Liz Cheney, the committee’s vice chairwoman, said Tuesday. “This individual refused to answer or respond to President Trump’s call and instead notified his attorney about the call. His attorney notified us. And this committee provided that information to the Department of Justice,” he added. A spokesman for Trump did not respond to requests for comment. Tuesday’s hearing marked the latest round of testimony portraying Trump as a president determined to stay in office after the 2020 presidential election — no matter the cost to American democracy. The committee presented new testimony from several key witnesses, including former White House counsel Pat Cipollone, who told committee investigators they repeatedly told Trump the election was not stolen and it was time for the president to concede. Trump has continued to make false claims about the 2020 election two years after losing to President Joe Biden. Trump has not yet ruled out another run for president in 2024. This is breaking news.
