If you’re tired of working in a home office, how about switching to a mobile phone? It has 64 different interior colors and six preset themes to match your mood. They can also illuminate as you accelerate — a top model with two engines and AWD can do 0-100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 5.1 seconds — to keep you aware of your speed. The automaker emphasizes remote work features, such as a bridge-style center console designed to fit a laptop and a notes application built into one of two 12-inch screens. There are also four USB-C ports, plus one USB-A port to power various devices, and slimmer car seats to maximize cabin space. The Ioniq 6’s 0.21 drag coefficient helps reduce energy consumption to 14kWh per 100km, giving it an estimated range of 610km or around 379 miles from its long-range 77.4kWh battery (although the estimate is based on the European WLTP range, EPA range is expected to be lower). There is also a base range option with a 53 kWh battery. The Ioniq 6 at the press conference also featured side-view cameras instead of traditional mirrors, which we’re unlikely to see in the US. While both vehicles are built on the automaker’s E-GMP electric vehicle platform, the Ioniq 6 includes automatic 2WD / 4WD switching, additional tuning capabilities and better performance and performance thanks to engine and drivetrain upgrades. And most importantly, the Ioniq 6 will be the first Hyundai car to support over-the-air software updates. Hyundai is also launching an Ioniq 6 NFT collection and says the car will be available for virtual experience at the automaker’s metaverse studio in Zepeto, along with a Roblox experience. And the Ioniq 6 online experience supports VR headsets for more immersion. Hyundai plans to start production of the Ioniq 6 in the third quarter of this year in Korea, followed by Europe later in the year. In the US, it is slated to go into production in January 2023, but the company has not confirmed whether the EV will be built at its upcoming plant in Savannah, Georgia. US availability will adjust to supply and demand, but currently, there are no plans for a nationwide release (the Ioniq 5 is currently sold in 38 states). After parking the car, an owner can start a live stream on a laptop located in the bridge-style center console. Also, thanks to Hyundai for the special HVAC controls.
