Is there any advantage to wearing a wet cloth around the neck to keep the body cool? S. Wilson, 60, Nottingham
In addition to drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated, cooling your skin with water is a good idea if you’re struggling with the heat. When the liquid evaporates from the surfaces they cool. You can use a cool wet sponge or flannel or a cold water spray. Cold packs around the neck and armpits can also help. Do what feels comfortable for you.

How can we keep our pets cool if we are at work? Ella, 24, Nottingham

My husband works at a golf course and is forced to take vacations due to the heat. Is this right? Rachel Mason
Under the Working Time Regulations 1998 (as amended), an employer has the right to provide notice requiring an employee to take any holidays they have accrued on specified dates. The notice must be at least twice the length of the leave period the employee is required to take. For example, if an employer wants the employee to take five days off, the employer must give at least 10 calendar days’ notice.
Will these temperatures be higher in residential cities where the sun’s reflection is magnified by the windows of high-rise buildings? Derek
Large urban areas tend to be warmer because there is relatively little bare land and vegetation and a high concentration of man-made materials that absorb heat, rather than reflect it. As London has the largest urban sprawl, it tends to have record high temperatures. Include a contact number if you would like to speak to a BBC journalist.
