Just days after the launch of an official recruitment drive for health professionals, the ER at Whitbourne Clinic is closing for an entire week due to “staffing challenges”. Bonavista ER is reopening this morning after a temporary weekend shutdown that was announced shortly after the provincial government’s hiring program began Friday. Premier Andrew Furey knows the frustration residents feel when the services they need are not available. He says solutions will take time, but a number of strategies are being worked out. He says an actively functioning system requires short-term, medium-term and long-term solutions, “like changing the spokes on a bicycle wheel as it moves.”
