Health Canada now says the Moderna vaccine can be given to young children between the ages of six months and five years in doses one-quarter the size of that approved for adults. The National Immunization Advisory Committee is expected to provide advice on its use today at 12 p.m. ET. You can watch the press conference live on this page when it starts. The approval extends the eligibility of the COVID-19 vaccine to nearly two million children in Canada, although availability of the vaccine will be determined by province. The vaccine requires two doses given about four weeks apart. Pfizer’s pediatric COVID-19 vaccine for young children between the ages of six months and five years was submitted to Health Canada last month and is still under review.
