CHARLOTTE – A student was found with a loaded gun on the campus of the Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology on Monday morning, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg School spokesman told Channel 9. The gun was found as the student passed through one of the school’s gun detectors, the CMS said. According to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, an 18-year-old was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed firearm and possessing an educational weapon. The district said this was the first time a weapon had been found through a weapons detector. This was the second day that weapons detectors were used at school, the CMS said. Grandmother Angelina Berry told Channel 9 that she was relieved to hear that they grabbed the gun before she entered the classroom and said gun trackers were a good idea. “He said they arrested a boy who was carrying a gun to school. “She does not want me to panic,” said Angelina Berry. “Thank God they have the metal detectors. Officials confirmed that the weapon found was “polymer”, meaning it was bought in pieces in a kit and had to be assembled. This is how ghost weapons are made. According to a Channel 9 report, this is the 29th time a weapon has been found on a CMS campus this school year.
