On a BC Transit bus, American TikToker Corrin Carlson’s video posted this week captured back-to-back customers thanking the bus driver as they headed for the exit doors. On TikTok, Carlson says @TheFatPassport and captioned the video, “Canada is very healthy,” prompting a flood of online reactions, including more than 745,000 likes and 26,000 comments by Tuesday morning. “I had some other popular ones, but not as big. It was very exciting to see,” Carlson said in an interview with CHEK News. “It’s always such a surprise when a video takes off. I didn’t expect this kind of reaction to the video at all, I just thought it was really cute and some people would laugh.” @thefatpassport Canada is very healthy #tiktoktravel #fypシ ♬ original sound – The Fat Passport BC Transit reposted the video on their social media. According to spokesperson Jamie Weiss, the relationship between the company’s customers and its drivers is important — with a simple “thank you” going a long way. “We realize this isn’t necessarily the case everywhere, but BC Transit wants to thank all of our customers for maintaining this important tradition,” Weiss told CHEK News. But around Victoria, buses can be polite too. Another viral TikTok posted by Corrin just the other day shows a BC Transit bus parked on Fairfield Road with “Sorry…Not In Service” displayed on its front screen. “Canada is the only country I’ve been to where the buses apologize for not running,” Corrin said in the video, as O Canada plays in the background. Some of the nearly 500 commenters on the video suggested that buses in countries such as the UK, Japan and the Netherlands follow suit and display “Sorry” when passengers leave. “My town in Canada doesn’t apologize – it should!” said one commenter. “This is very… Canada. I love it and miss it…” added another. @thefatpassport Sorry 😅 #tiktoktravel #fyp ♬ Canada (Canada) – Wildlife After the Victoria tour, Carlson is back in the US now, but she’s already eager to get back. “It’s a beautiful place,” he added. “I’m happy to be back, for sure.”
