South Okanagan General Hospital Another Home Office emergency department is closed this weekend due to staffing issues. On Sunday, Interior Health announced the emergency department at South Okanagan General Hospital will be closed until 6 p.m. due to “limited availability of doctors”. The nearest hospital is Penticton Regional Hospital, about 35 minutes north of Oliver Hospital. The closure comes amid staffing issues at several Internal Health emergency departments. On Friday, Interior Health announced that emergency departments in Ashcroft and Clearwater will also be closed this weekend. The emergency department at Dr. Clearwater’s Helmcken Memorial has seen periodic closings for months.
