Donny van de Beek is aiming to secure more game time under new manager Erik ten Hag at Manchester United next season after returning from an unsuccessful loan spell at Everton. The Netherlands international is upbeat about both the club’s prospects and his own under the ten Hag and will be delighted to be reunited with a manager under whom he has enjoyed some of the best football of his career to date. The 25-year-old midfielder also made it clear he wants to help the club improve after a disastrous season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and later Ralf Rangnick, as United recorded their lowest points of the Premier League era.

If you look at last season, we have a lot of things to improve on and if we work on that now, then we’ll see where we end up. “We will fight for everything.” The 25-year-old has been an ever-present under ten Hags during his time at Ajax and was a focal point of the Ajax side that stunned and entertained football fans around the world with their run to the 2019 Champions League semi-finals. But the Netherlands international has been unable to recapture the form he showed at the Dutch giants following a big-money move to the Premier League and has found himself on the run at United very quickly. As a result, he was loaned out to Everton in January 2022 to pick up some minutes, but suffered a succession of injuries and knocks that hampered his game time. United’s No 34 was a second-half substitute in the 4-0 thrashing of Liverpool in Bangkok. He added: “For my experience, I think [the Everton loan] It was good. Obviously, I was a bit unlucky with my injuries. “I missed a lot of games but to have that experience… it wasn’t an easy season for the team because we played to avoid relegation, which is not what you want for a club like Everton but, overall, it was good . experience to be there”. Van de Beek now has the chance to reignite his career at Old Trafford under a manager who scored 32 goals and provided 29 assists in 110 games for Ajax as he became one of Europe’s most sought-after midfielders.
