As tourists and locals soak up the sun by Okanagan Lake, the shoreline along City Park is littered with debris. A Kelowna resident who has lived in the area for five years says she’s never seen it this bad. “Granted, this is from the far end of the back side by the bridge, but it’s really bad all the way down and downright bad by the bridge,” the resident said. Rotary Beach is also littered with debris. The BC River Forecast Center has issued a flash flood watch for Monday, July 4 for Mission Creek. Okanagan Lake levels also rose after the last rush of water in mid-June. Following a local state of emergency on June 14 due to isolated flooding along Mission Creek, emergency officials asked the public to let debris wash up on shore until water levels recede, as it helps protect against further erosion of the coast. Okanagan Lake sits just above the full pool at 342,582m. The full pool is 342.48m.
